A tangency occurs when two edges almost touch or line up in a distracting way. In thumbnails, letters can appear attached to a face, tool, or border even when that was not intended.
Scan the boundaries
Look around every text block and subject outline. Check for a letter touching a shoulder, an arrow ending exactly on a frame edge, or a background line passing through a face. These coincidences can make the composition feel cramped.
Choose separation or clear overlap
Move elements far enough apart to create visible space, or overlap them deliberately with a clear hierarchy. Tiny adjustments that remain ambiguous may not survive when the image is reduced.
Review the small export
Inspect the exported file, not just the editing canvas. Compression and resizing can close gaps that looked comfortable at full size. If an edge still reads awkwardly, simplify the surrounding area. Clean separation often improves readability more than adding another outline or shadow to every object.
