Before you save.
How do I download a YouTube thumbnail in HD?
Paste the video URL and select Get thumbnail. Choose the largest available resolution, check the displayed pixel dimensions, then select Download image. HD is available only when YouTube provides a sufficiently large original; this tool does not upscale thumbnails.
Can I download a YouTube Shorts thumbnail?
Yes. Paste a youtube.com/shorts/ link to preview the available thumbnail images and download a JPG. The saved image is the thumbnail YouTube exposes, not a frame selected from the video.
Why is the highest resolution missing?
Different videos expose different image sizes. The tool lists the versions it can load; it does not upscale an image or invent a higher-quality original.
What if the download button does not save?
Open the image using the link below the preview. On a phone, press and hold the image and choose the browser's save option.
Can I reuse any thumbnail I download?
Downloading does not grant permission to reuse someone else's work. Use your own images, obtain permission, or assess the applicable rights for your intended use.
Make the image work harder.
Build a thumbnail around one focal point
A thumbnail is a small visual decision point. Trying to show every moment of a video usually makes the image harder to understand. Start with the one subject that best represents the upload.
Read the guide ↗Check your thumbnail at phone size
A thumbnail that looks impressive on a large editing canvas can become confusing in a small feed. Small-size review is a practical way to catch problems before publishing.
Read the guide ↗Use text on thumbnails only when it earns its space
Thumbnail text can clarify a contrast, question, or result. It can also compete with the image and repeat information already supplied by the title. Decide what the words contribute before adding them.
