Convert JPG or PNG images to WebP in your browser, adjust quality, compare file sizes and check the result before using it on a website.

Start with the image you actually need

A website photo should be clear at the size visitors will see it. Before converting JPG to WebP or PNG to WebP, check whether the original dimensions are appropriate. A very large photo may need resizing as well as a different format. Image Converter preserves pixel dimensions; it does not automatically resize a large camera photo for a website.

Keep your original file so you can make another version later. For example, a recipe photograph and a transparent logo have different requirements. The photograph may work well with a moderate quality setting, while the logo needs careful inspection around text, sharp edges and transparent areas.

Select WebP in Image Converter

Open Image Converter and choose your JPG or PNG file, or drag it into the selection area on a computer. The tool detects the original format from the file contents. Renaming a file extension does not convert it, and a misleading filename will not determine the output.

Choose WebP from Output format. The page tests whether your browser can encode the requested format. If WebP export is disabled, use another supported browser or choose an available output. This avoids downloading a PNG file that is merely named as if it were WebP.

Adjust quality and preserve transparency

The quality slider controls lossy WebP export. Start with the default setting, convert the image and inspect the result. If the downloaded file is larger than you want, lower the quality a little and convert again. There is no single setting that produces the best result for every image.

For a transparent PNG, leave Remove transparency unchecked to retain transparent areas in the WebP output. If you need a solid background instead, enable that option and choose the color before conversion. Check hair, rounded corners and small lettering against the background where the image will eventually appear.

Compare the result before replacing the original

Select Convert Images. Each completed result shows the original format and file size, the new format and file size, and the output dimensions. Use Download Converted Image to save it. Open the downloaded file and inspect fine textures, gradients and readable text, rather than relying only on a small preview.

A WebP file is not guaranteed to be smaller. The result depends on the source, the content and the selected quality. If it is larger without an improvement you need, keep the original or try a different setting. For dimension changes, use Image Resizer; for a focused size comparison workflow, use Image Compressor.

Common questions about WebP conversion

Does converting JPG to WebP restore lost detail? No. An image format change cannot recover information removed by earlier compression. Keep a high-quality original and create delivery copies from it when possible.

Can I convert several photos together? This tool accepts up to 10 images, with a 15 MB limit per file and a 60 MB limit per batch. It processes the selected images one at a time and provides a separate download for each successful result.

Are the photos uploaded? The converter reads and processes your files in the browser. It downloads its program files from the site, but does not upload your images to a conversion service.
