Make a shorter PDF by selecting only the pages you want to retain, then verify completeness without overwriting or deleting the original file.

Decide what belongs in the shorter copy

Removing unwanted pages is often easier to plan as a list of pages to keep. Open the source and identify covers, duplicates or unrelated sections that do not belong in the delivery copy. Check both sides of any apparent duplicate: similar-looking pages may contain different details.

Use actual file positions rather than printed labels. If you want to omit position three from a six-page PDF, the retained selection is 1-2, 4-6. Write the selection down before you start when the document has many sections.

Export the retained positions

Select the PDF in Split PDF, check its page count and enter your keep list. Choose Extract pages to create one new PDF containing that selection. The operation does not delete pages from the original or overwrite the source file.

Review the selected ranges carefully. A range includes both endpoints, so 4-6 keeps pages four, five and six. You can mix ranges with individual pages to describe a more irregular set.

Distinguish page removal from redaction

This workflow excludes whole pages. It is not a tool for securely removing a sentence, account number or other detail from within a retained page. If information inside a page must be removed, prepare an appropriate source copy using a suitable redaction workflow before sharing it.

Likewise, do not assume that keeping fewer pages preserves every document feature. Forms, signatures, bookmarks and document-level structure may not survive extraction as expected. Keep the original when those features matter.

Verify the shortened PDF

Download the output, count its pages and confirm that every intended section remains. Inspect the transition where a page or block was omitted so that the remaining content still reads coherently. Rename the delivery copy clearly, and keep the original separately until the shorter version has been checked and accepted for its intended purpose.
