Crop unwanted photo borders and rotate scanned pages before saving a PDF. Use manual controls without cutting off text, signatures or page numbers.

Decide which borders to remove

A camera photo often includes part of a desk, nearby objects or a wide margin around the paper. Cropping removes those areas so the document occupies more of the PDF page. Before cropping, identify every item that must remain visible, including page numbers, handwritten notes, dates and marks near the edges.

Leave a small border around the content rather than cutting exactly against the first or last character. A tight crop can remove a descender, underline or part of a signature. If the paper itself is important, keep its complete outline rather than cropping down to only the printed paragraph.

Apply the manual crop controls

Select the image under Your pages in ToolNivo Scan to PDF. Move the Left and Right sliders to trim the sides, then adjust Top and Bottom. The orange outline shows the area you are keeping. Moving a slider changes the proposed crop; choose Apply crop to save it to that page.

Each slider removes a percentage of the current image from its corresponding edge. Start with small adjustments and check the preview before applying. You can apply another crop afterward, but use Restore original if you need to recover content removed by an earlier edit. Restore original also clears rotation and appearance changes for that page.

Correct the reading orientation

Use Rotate 90° to turn the selected page clockwise. A sideways sheet usually needs one or three turns; an upside-down photograph needs two. Check the text direction rather than relying only on whether the preview is taller than it is wide.

The tool chooses portrait or landscape A4 output according to the edited image's proportions. This helps wide pages fit without stretching. It does not reconstruct the original paper size, and changing orientation does not automatically remove blank margins.

Recognize when a new photo is needed

A rectangular crop cannot correct perspective. When one side of the photographed page looks much narrower than the other, trimming may remove content while leaving the text distorted. Put the paper flat and take a new photo with the camera facing it directly.

Likewise, rotation fixes reading direction but cannot sharpen motion blur. After editing, create the PDF and inspect all four corners of the saved page. If you change the crop again, regenerate the PDF so your download includes the latest edits. Keep the original photo until you have checked the final result.
