Layer names matter when a design changes hands. A project full of unnamed copies makes small corrections slower and increases the chance of editing the wrong element.
Name by function
Use clear labels such as Main subject, Background cleanup, Outcome label, and Color adjustment. Group related masks and effects with the object they modify. Avoid relying on layer order alone to explain the design.
Mark alternatives clearly
Keep rejected or optional treatments in a labelled group with visibility turned off. Delete temporary test elements that no longer serve a purpose, while preserving useful source material separately.
Prepare the handoff
Include the linked images, font information, and a note identifying the current approved export. Open the project once from the handoff folder to check for missing assets. A colleague should be able to change a word or crop without guessing which duplicate layer controls the published result.
