Open Background Remover

Use the local background remover on iPhone or iPad and check that the saved PNG keeps its transparency after export.

Prepare the photo

Select a supported JPG, PNG or WebP file. A camera photo stored as HEIC needs conversion before this tool can open it. Keep a copy of the original, and avoid using a screenshot as the conversion method when you need to preserve fine detail. Screenshots can introduce a smaller image and a flat background that were not in the source.

Keep the browser active

Wait for the original preview, then start removal. The device downloads the model and performs inference locally. Keep the page open until the result appears. Switching away during a large task may interrupt or delay processing, depending on the device and browser. If the task fails, close unnecessary tabs and try a supported, smaller file before repeating the operation.

Save and check the actual PNG

Use the tool's download button. The exact destination and save menu depend on your browser settings; check Files or the browser's download list rather than assuming it went directly to Photos. If needed, use the result image's available save action. Do not take a screenshot of the checkerboard preview: that would capture the checkerboard itself.

Open the saved file in a design app over a bright colored layer. Transparent areas should reveal that layer. If they appear white, confirm that Download background was set to Transparent and that an intermediate messaging or editing app did not flatten the image. This small check is especially useful before sending a cutout to someone who needs to place it on a different background.
