CV & RESUME GUIDES

How to Create a CV Online for Free: A Practical Guide

Creating a CV online is easier when you separate two decisions: what information belongs in the document and how to present it. Start with a particular role, gather your relevant experience, and then choose a layout. ToolNivo's free CV generator handles the document formatting while you stay responsible for the content.

Start with the role, not the design

Read the job description and identify the responsibilities you can genuinely demonstrate. Make a short list of relevant tasks, tools, qualifications and achievements. A CV for customer support may emphasize resolving requests and communicating clearly; a maintenance CV may prioritize installations, repairs and fault diagnosis.

You do not need to include every task you have ever performed. Select information that helps the reader understand your suitability for this application. Keep a separate working copy of your source notes so that you can reuse accurate dates and details for later applications.

Build the main sections

  1. Contact information: enter your name, professional title, email and phone number. Add a relevant portfolio or LinkedIn link if you have one.
  2. Professional summary: briefly explain your background and the kind of contribution you can make.
  3. Work experience: add job title, employer, location, dates and concrete responsibilities or achievements.
  4. Education: list the qualification, institution and dates. Add relevant supporting detail when useful.
  5. Skills and languages: name tools or capabilities you can discuss, and choose honest language proficiency levels.

Turn a vague description into evidence

Compare “Responsible for maintenance” with “Diagnosed water leaks, replaced damaged fittings and tested completed repairs in residential buildings.” The second version helps the reader understand the work. It does not require an invented percentage or an exaggerated job title.

If you have a documented result, explain it accurately. If you do not, describe the scope of the task, your role and the method used. Avoid adding impressive-sounding numbers simply because a template example contains them.

Choose and customize a template

Open ToolNivo, choose one of the six layouts and enter your details. Use Change Template to compare alternatives without clearing the fields. Adjust the accent, body font size and section spacing, then review the actual PDF preview rather than judging the design from the selection thumbnail alone.

Use Section order to place your most relevant sections earlier. Hide optional sections you do not need instead of filling them with weak content. Certifications, projects, courses and volunteer experience are available, and a custom section can hold information that does not fit the standard headings.

Review every page before downloading

Check spelling, dates, contact links and the final line of each long entry. If the document grows, remove repetition before making the font smaller. A useful second page is preferable to text that is too small to read. Follow the employer's specific length and format instructions where provided.

Choose a filename such as Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf and open the downloaded file. ToolNivo does not submit applications or retain your draft after a reload. Save the PDF before leaving, and send it through the method requested by the employer.
